'Just one area - the "Trowse Triangle' - is still partly derelict'
The darker side of early and recent history. The old stone building to the right of the picture is one of a pair of
'boom towers' constructed in the 13th century. They supported a massive chain across the river, to discourage
invaders from the continent of Europe. Now this tower is in need of conservation.
Little can be said for the surviving commercial buildings
huddled on the bank beyond it, which at present totally obstruct any
further extension of the riverside walk.
