Balanced management, peaceful pursuits The Whitlingham Charitable Trust which manages the Country Park aims to balance the interests of conservation (of both nature and archaeology), the landscape, and recreation, so that people can enjoy peaceful pursuits in a tranquil rural environment. Water-based activities will include sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, rowing and sub aqua; on land, the existing opportunities for walking, cycling, bird watching, and field study will be extended. Visitor facilities are being developed, with a home for a future Visitor Centre in the handsome flint barn beside Whitlingham Lane, near the south shore of the Great Broad. Moorings and boat hire facilities are also to be provided. Click to view larger pictures.

Access Whitlingham Lane is now part of Route 1 of the National Cycle Network, and an improved cycle route from the city centre will leave the busy roads and follow new paths close to the rivers. The existing Riverbus service from the City centre has a landing stage at Trowse Eye, at the western edge of the Park, and a second one is planned for the eastern end, so that visitors can arrive by Riverbus, take a walk through the Park, and pick up a Riverbus again at the other end for the return journey.
