About NRHG
Norwich Rivers Heritage Group was set up in 2002, by local people who wanted to support the proposal by Norwich City Council to link the city and Whitlingham Country Park with new paths and bridges across the Wensum and the Yare.

The focus of our project is the Trowse Triangle - the derelict and poorly accessible riverside area in south-east Norwich between the City Centre and Whitlingham Country Park.

Our aims

  • Investigate the river-related heritage - natural, industrial and social - of the area,
  • Put forward ideas for managing, developing, and using its assets, for the benefit of Norwich and its citizens, now and in the future,
  • Tell people about the area and our ideas, and draw them into working with us,
  • Know about proposed developments in the area, and influence the outcomes.

What we have done so far

  • Gained the support of National and Local Bodies with an interest in the area,
  • Researched the area and made contact with people who have an interest in it,
  • Won grants from the Local Heritage Initiative, Learning City and Water City International funds,
  • Put on a mobile exhibition about the area, shown during Spring and Summer 2004 at venues around Norwich,
  • Produced an associated booklet for schools and the wider public,
  • Put on an exhibition of children's art on the theme of 'rivers' (see schools page),
  • Produced a ground-breaking report on Developing the River Gateway about Norwich Rivers.
  • Collected reminiscences and images to create a community archive about Norwich Rivers.

    What we are doing now

  • Making presentations about our ideas to interested organisations (click here if you'd like a presentation),
  • Campaigning for traffic-free paths to link the city centre and Thorpe with Whitlingham and beyond (see news page),
